Preparation for your appointment with your eye care specialist will help ensure you get the most out of it. It may help to have a family member or friend to accompany you, for support and to note or write down any information you receive. It may be helpful to write down questions and bring them with you to ask at your appointment. Below is a list of questions you could ask:

  1. What are the symptoms of diabetic eye disease?
  1. Who are at the risk of developing diabetic eye disease?
  1. Can diabetes cause Retinal Detachment?
  1. What is the name of my eye condition?
  1. Is this condition temporary or long lasting?
  1. What is my visual acuity (central vision)? What is my visual field (side vision)?
  1. Am I likely to lose more vision?
  1. How can I prevent my condition from getting worse, or slow the rate of progression?
  1. Apart from managing my diabetes do I require treatment?
  1. Is treatment for my diabetic eye condition available to me?
  1. Will this treatment affect other medication I am taking?
  1. If treatment is not financially available to me, are there clinical trials I can enrol with to get access to treatment?
